Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice

Location: Barmedman, NSW

Roster: Day Shift

Access Metal Recycling is a well-established regional scrap metal company seeking a 2nd or 3rd year Heavy Vehicle Commercial Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice or a Light Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice looking to upgrade to a Heavy Commercial Vehicle qualification.

Based in our workshop at Barmedman, you will assist with maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of equipment, including trucks (Kenworth 909 and 610), trailers, excavators, material handlers, generators, and other fixed and mobile plant. This role offers excellent exposure to a wide range of equipment and the opportunity to gain highly sought-after industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with diagnosis, maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles, trailers, earthmoving equipment, material handlers, forklifts and generators.

  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems to identify faults and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.

  • Performing routine servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements and engine tune-ups.

  • Maintaining accurate service records and assisting with inventory and stock control.

  • Following all workplace health and safety procedures and company policies.

  • Working collaboratively with the workshop team to ensure equipment reliability and availability.

What You'll Bring

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Completion of at least two years of a Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical apprenticeship (or equivalent);

  • Completion of at least two years of a Light Vehicle Mechanical apprenticeship (or equivalent) and a willingness to upgrade to a Heavy Commercial Vehicle qualification.

  • Some experience working on heavy vehicles, trailers, plant or equipment, or a willingness to learn.

  • A current driver's licence.

  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to workplace safety.
