The role:

We are seeking a reliable and motivated Maintenance Mechanical Tradesperson or Trades Assistant to join our maintenance team at our busy manufacturing facility in Howlong. This hands-on role is critical to keeping our plant, machinery and equipment operating safely and efficiently. Working as part of a supportive team, you will assist with preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, equipment improvements and day-to-day mechanical support across the site.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs on production machinery, conveyors, pumps, motors, pneumatic systems and other mechanical equipment.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify root causes and implement practical solutions to minimise downtime and support production efficiency.

• Assist with equipment adjustments, alignments and calibrations to support safe operation, quality standards and reliable performance.

• Work with the maintenance team to complete planned and reactive maintenance tasks in line with site priorities, safety requirements and company procedures.

• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment and workshop machinery to repair, replace, fabricate and install mechanical components.

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, including equipment history, repair details and spare parts usage.

Skills, knowledge and experience requirements:

• Maintenance Mechanical Tradesperson: Mechanical trade qualification with experience in a manufacturing, processing or industrial environment.

• Trades Assistant: Previous experience supporting maintenance, mechanical or workshop teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Experience in welding, boilermaking or fabrication will be highly regarded.

• Experience using MEX or another computerised maintenance management system would be an advantage.

• Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• A flexible, adaptable approach with high attention to detail.

• Good time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure.

• A demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively as part of a team.

• A willingness to learn, take direction and develop new skills.
