About the role
FVS Fire is seeking a dedicated and skilled Passive Fire Technician to join our growing team in Brisbane. This is a full-time position based in Brisbane QLD 4000, where you will play a vital role in ensuring buildings meet critical fire safety standards. As a Passive Fire Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and inspection of passive fire protection systems that are essential to protecting lives and property. This position is strategically important to our operations, as passive fire systems are a fundamental component of building safety compliance and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
Conduct thorough inspections and testing of passive fire systems to ensure they meet Australian Standards and legislative requirements
Perform maintenance and repairs on existing passive fire protection installations to maintain compliance and functionality
Prepare detailed reports documenting installation, inspection, and maintenance activities for client records and compliance purposes
Liaise with building contractors, architects, and property managers to coordinate installation schedules and ensure project requirements are met
Identify deficiencies and safety risks in passive fire systems and recommend corrective actions
Stay current with changes to fire safety regulations, Australian Standards, and industry best practices
Contribute to the training and mentoring of junior technicians as required
What we're looking for
Trade qualification or certification in fire protection, building services, or a related discipline
Proven experience working as a Passive Fire Technician or in a similar fire protection installation role
Strong knowledge of passive fire protection systems, including fire-rated doors, frames, fire penetrations, and compartmentation
Familiarity with relevant Australian Standards (such as AS 1905 and AS 4072) and building codes applicable to passive fire protection
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and building plans accurately
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship and safety compliance
Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective liaison with clients and team members
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel within the Wider Brisbane area as required
Preferred: experience with fire system inspections, auditing, or compliance documentation
